St Clair Golf Club Weekly Wrap

12th June 2025

Men's Club Captain Report

Dear Members,

We are right into winter golf now with only the brave (mad) venturing out.

We have found our finalists for the 4BBB. Ross Tilson & Eugene Sheilds play Matthew Kincaid-Lloyd & Eric Payne. Good luck to all.

This week we play the Brian Rowley memorial Four Seasons stableford sponsored by Cutlers real estate off the red tees.

On Saturday we played the Platinum Homes Club Captains mug, JW Smeaton Shootout, 1st round Lucifer & Ron Johnston memorial.

Stephen Wheeler won the mug on CB from Adam Crashley & Reid Parker on net 70.

Fulton Henry has a 7 shot lead in the shootout, Jason Santos leads the Ron Johnston memorial.

Pennants:
Last Saturday our senior A pennant team beat the Otago Bombers. This gives us home advantage heading into the play offs. This week the team has a bye.

It’s been an outstanding season to date, remaining unbeaten and winning playoffs and close matches. I mixture of young & old have all stood up. Good luck in the finals.

Intermediate. Apologies for last week’s comments as I said our blue team are almost guaranteed a spot in the playoffs with one round to go but it is in fact our gold team. Their match was rained off, so they go again this weekend.

Do you know the Rules?

Relief from water in  bunkers

Look at the noticeboard before you start play to check if any bunkers have been declared abnormal course conditions/GUR. If they have, you can take free relief from them.

Partially flooded bunker

If your ball is in a flooded section of bunker but there is an area of un-flooded bunker not nearer the hole, you can take free relief. The nearest point of complete relief and the relief area must be in the bunker and the ball must be dropped in the bunker.

If there is no nearest point of complete relief in the bunker, you may still take free relief by using the point of “maximum available relief” in the bunker as a reference point – where the water will least interfere with your stroke (no nearer the hole.) e.g. the ball may be in shallower water.

Totally flooded bunker

If your ball ends in a bunker that is totally flooded where no type of relief is available, you have no option but to take a penalty drop.

Options for 1 penalty stroke:

  • Nearest point of relief outside the bunker
  • Drop any distance back in line with the flag.
  • Play again from where your previous stroke was made (stroke and distance).
