Last Saturday we played the Brian Rowley memorial Four Seasons stableford sponsored by Cutlers real estate off the red tees. This proved to be a difficult assignment for most and seemed to suit the lower handicappers. Jakob Bleach was the player of the day with 37points on CB from Paul Brouwer. Jakob shot 10 under!

We are two rounds into the Brian Rowley four seasons with Adam Crashley leading the way. The next rounds are 25th October (white tees) and 29th November (blue tees) and it’s the best three out of four that wins.

This Saturday we are playing the south African stableford (not the pink ball as advertised). The following week is the winter, Ambrose.

Presidents’ pennants start end of this month and is played on Sundays. Presidents is a 6-man team with 2 on a handicap 12 and under, 2 12 – 17 and 2 over 17. We still need players particularly in the over 17 handicap section. Please let me know if you are available even if its only to fill in.

Course & Clubhouse Storm Damage Update (31st May)

The recent weather event has caused significant damage to both the course and clubhouse. If you've been up to the club, you’ll have seen firsthand the extent of the impact.

On Course

A huge number of hours have already gone into tidying the course and making it playable again. A massive thank you to those who volunteered their time on Saturday 1st June – your help was invaluable and greatly appreciated by our small greenkeeping team.

Unfortunately, the weather since then hasn’t been kind, which has slowed further clean-up efforts. However, work continues between daily maintenance tasks.

We have an insurance claim lodged, which includes:

  • Driving range nets – shredded beyond repair
  • Fence along Isadore Road – completely blown away
  • Significant tree damage – especially around the 7th green

We’ve received a report from Dave Howard regarding the 7th green and are now awaiting a quote to re-turf the area. This will be a longer-term fix, as our greenkeepers would only be able to undertake the work in their limited spare time. (see attachment for the complete report)

Additionally, an arborist has been on-site for two days to help with tree clearing and safety. Again, this is a time-consuming process, but progress is being made.

Clubhouse

The damage to the clubhouse has also been substantial, with an upstairs window completely blown out during the storm. Huge thanks to Will Hepburn and his team, who came to the rescue on Saturday 31st May, securing the club against the elements.

Thanks to some quick thinking and excellent work by Ruth and her team, we’ve been able to continue hosting events upstairs, and if you weren’t aware of the damage, you likely wouldn’t have noticed a thing.

We are now in the process of gathering quotes for a replacement window and necessary building work. Our aim is to have everything completed by the end of July.

Due to the severity of the damage and shattered glass being spread throughout the upstairs area, it looks like we’ll also need to replace the carpet, as it's impossible to fully remove all fragments with standard vacuuming.  The curtains were also damaged and need replacing along with the gouges out of the bar which will need fixed at some point.

Thank you all for your ongoing patience and support as we work hard to restore the club to its former glory. We’ll continue to keep you updated as things progress.

7th Hole - Updated Local Rules

  • Ground under repair marked left of green excluding bunker, free relief available as per normal rules (nearest point of relief no nearer the hole)

    Relief from damaged green:

  • Ball off the green: We have put in a drop zone in front right of green for optional line of sight relief should you need to play over the damaged area of the green (this is temporary and we are working on a more permanent solution)

  • Ball on the green: If on the green among the damaged areas you may take relief to the nearest point on the green no nearer the hole; exception it can only be nearer the hole if that is your only option to stay on the green.
