This week we play the qualifying for the Eureka Paterson & Corstorphine cups. This is the premier handicap event at the club and is split into two sections. If you qualify you then go on to play Matchplay off handicap. 1st round Aug 23rd, 2nd round Aug 30th.
NB: When you go to print your card this Saturday, the computer will ask you if you want to qualify for Paterson/Corstorphine cup and you'll need to select yes or no. The draw done on Sunday will only include those who selected yes when printing their card on Saturday, so please check carefully.
Pennants: Presidents got postponed last week and we have a bye this week.
Champions of Otago. Our team of Jakob Bleach, Matt Hall & Sam Smith travelled to Lower Waitaki on Sunday to compete against all the other club champions. Although the team didn’t win overall, they gave it their best shot. Jakob shot 1 over for the second-best round of the day. Thanks for representing guys

What's Happening on Course?
It’s been another productive week on the course, with the team making great progress despite the cooler winter conditions.
The recent weather may have brought down a few trees, but it’s also provided an opportunity to tidy up key areas and make the most of the timber. Our firewood sales have been popular with members, bringing in valuable income for the club. Cutting, splitting, and loading these orders has kept us busy—and we’re delighted to see so much support for this initiative.
Other highlights this week include:
- Firewood & clean-up – Ongoing cutting, splitting, and burning of debris, plus tidying branches around Kenmore.
- Course maintenance – Bunker raking, trimming around tees, signs, and native areas, filling sand bins, and relocating some tee block markers.
- Greens & irrigation – A constructive meeting with Turf Shapes to assess greens, review irrigation upgrades, and discuss drainage plans for the 13th and 18th greens.
- Tee mowing – Fine-tuning our mowing schedule to target the driest parts of the day, with two staff dedicated to keeping tees in top shape.
- Aeration – Continued aeration of fairways, greens, and tees to enhance drainage and turf health, with the Air2G2 unit performing brilliantly.
- Machinery maintenance – Sharpening and servicing equipment to ensure everything is ready for the months ahead.
Thanks to everyone for their patience and encouragement—we’re seeing great progress and are looking forward to an excellent playing surface as we head toward spring.

CALL FOR SUPPORT
Preparations are underway for our MTF Machinery Tournament, happening on Friday, 5th September 2025. This is a low-cost entry event designed to encourage strong participation from our St Clair members — and while we don’t have traditional tee sponsors, we’d love your support in other ways.
We’re currently seeking raffle and auction items to help make the day a success. Vouchers, products, branded items, or anything you’re happy to contribute are always warmly received and help create a great tournament experience.
In return, all supporters will be acknowledged and thanked in the clubrooms on the day, with your generosity clearly recognised.
If you’re able to help or would like to find out more, please get in touch with the office or ermail general@stclairgolf.co.nz
Thanks in advance — your support really does make a difference!

Course Convenor
We’re currently on the lookout for a new Course Convenor to join the team at St Clair Golf Club. Sadly, we’ve had to say goodbye to Mark in this role due to circumstances beyond his control, and we thank him for the time and energy he contributed to the club.
The Course Convenor is a volunteer position that plays a key part in supporting our Course Superintendent and ensuring the continued excellence of our course. If you’re passionate about golf, enjoy being hands-on, and want to contribute to the ongoing development and presentation of the course, we’d love to hear from you. It’s a great opportunity to be involved behind the scenes and make a real impact at your club.

The 120th Annual General Meeting of St Clair Golf Club Inc
(24th September 2025)
Have you thought of standing for election to the Committee or Board?
|
|
|
Dear Members,
Nominations are now open for positions on the Board of Management and various Committee roles, with several vacancies available.
As outlined in the Club Rules, the Board of Management comprises five members, each serving a three-year term on a rotational basis. This year, Paul Buckner is retiring by rotation and has offered himself for re-election. However, nominations are welcomed from any eligible member who wishes to stand for election to the Board.
Nominations for both the Board and Committee Officer roles must be submitted in writing, signed by two full members and the nominee. These must be received no later than 13th September 2025, which is at least 10 working days prior to the Annual General Meeting. Nomination forms are available in both the Men’s and Ladies’ restrooms.
Voting will take place at the Annual General Meeting. If nominations exceed the number of available positions for either the Board or Committee, a secret ballot will be conducted at the meeting, with scrutineers appointed to oversee the process.
Yours faithfully
Annette

Bunker Rakes - where do you put them?
|
|
|
 .
At St Clair the correct etiquette is to leave the rake in the middle of the bunker parallel to the direction of play of the hole.
This provides the least possibility of causing interference when the ball lands in or near the bunker, or leaving a difficult lie on the face of the bunker.

Stairlift
Following a couple of recent incidents, we’d like to take a moment to remind members and guests that the stair lift is there for your safety and convenience. It was installed specifically to assist anyone who may feel unsteady, has a medical condition, or simply isn’t feeling 100%—whether it's a sore back, tired legs, or even after a few too many celebratory drinks. Our staff are more than happy to provide instructions and ensure you use it safely. Please don’t ever feel too proud to make use of this fantastic facility—it’s there to help you get down the stairs safely and comfortably.
