St Clair Golf Club Weekly Wrap

21st August 2025

Men's Club Captain Report

Dear Members,

Last week we played the qualifying round for the Eureka Paterson & Corstorphine cups. The draw is out and everyone who wanted to qualify has done so. Player of the day on Saturday goes to Drew McMillan with a net 63 (73 Gross).

This week we play the first round of the Eureka Paterson & Corstorphine cups and a Par for the rest of the field. A reminder when playing Matchplay the low marker gives the shots and if you are tied after 18 holes you then play sudden death off the first tee. Shots to be given where applicable.

No shoot out scores for the next two weeks.

Pennants: Presidents had a bye this week.

Regards

Women's Club Captain Report

Hey everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed the nice weather in the weekend. Not too much to report on the women's front. This week (19th and 23rd Aug) we've got our 6 club competition for those wanting to play something a bit different (pick 6 clubs to play your round with). The following week (26th and 30th) we'll be playing a stableford.

What's Happening on Course?

Another busy late winter week has passed by on the golf course. With spring approaching were starting to see a bit of movement with the grass especially after the weekends temperatures.

With that in mind we’ve spent some time this week readying the irrigation system for use. The leak at the 13th tee/12th green has been repaired with a new valve for the tee being needed as well as a small repair to the 20mm pipeline that runs to our stock troughs in the neighbouring paddocks. The pipe blow out at the 5th green has been dug up and removed. This repair isn’t quite as straight forward but will hopefully be fixed this week when it stops raining. This will allow the fountain on the 6th tee to be running.

Firewood - sales continue to be very strong with us barely being able to keep up with orders. Once again I will remind members that this is a valuable source of income as well as a great way to tidy up the logs left after the tree removal in autumn.

Carts - unfortunately after the weekend's great warm weather we have returned to typical winter weather with a large southerly front delivering cooler temperatures and plenty of rain (18mm to midday Tuesday). While we remain open for play for any hardy golfers we most likely wont have carts on the course until the weekend. Well take a look on Friday morning and see how wet it remains.

Cheers,
Chris Murphy

Storm Damage Update

Although our insurance claim has not been finalised or approved, we need to move ahead on these repairs. The builder has been given the go-ahead to begin work on the clubhouse, and Turf Shapes are scheduled to repair the 7th green early next week. The clubhouse work will include window replacement, framing repairs, reinstating communication cabling, and painting, with scaffolding to be installed to ensure safety while the work is carried out over the coming weeks. We are also progressing the approval process for the new practice nets, which take around two months from order to delivery. On a brighter note, the new nets for the practice area have already arrived, along with two new mats, and Paul Brouwer, Chris, and the team will be installing these shortly.

MTF Machinery Tournament - 5th September

CALL FOR SUPPORT

Preparations are underway for our MTF Machinery Tournament, happening on Friday, 5th September 2025. This is a low-cost entry event designed to encourage strong participation from our St Clair members — and while we don’t have traditional tee sponsors, we’d love your support in other ways.

We’re currently seeking raffle and auction items to help make the day a success. Vouchers, products, branded items, or anything you’re happy to contribute are always warmly received and help create a great tournament experience.
In return, all supporters will be acknowledged and thanked in the clubrooms on the day, with your generosity clearly recognised.
If you’re able to help or would like to find out more, please get in touch with the office or ermail  general@stclairgolf.co.nz

Thanks in advance — your support really does make a difference!

Volunteer Admin Help

We’re on the lookout for a volunteer to assist in the office on a casual basis, particularly with administration tasks and helping to organise upcoming tournaments — including sourcing and preparing prizes.

If you have a bit of spare time, enjoy working behind the scenes, and want to support the club in a practical way, we’d love to hear from you!

Course Convenor

We’re currently on the lookout for a new Course Convenor to join the team at St Clair Golf Club. Sadly, we’ve had to say goodbye to Mark in this role due to circumstances beyond his control, and we thank him for the time and energy he contributed to the club.

The Course Convenor is a volunteer position that plays a key part in supporting our Course Superintendent and ensuring the continued excellence of our course. If you’re passionate about golf, enjoy being hands-on, and want to contribute to the ongoing development and presentation of the course, we’d love to hear from you. It’s a great opportunity to be involved behind the scenes and make a real impact at your club.

Attached is a job description outlining the key responsibilities and expectations.  If you are interested please send your Expression of Interest to manager@stclairgolf.co.nz

Volunteers for Bar/Café Support

We are currently seeking volunteers to assist in our bar and café areas. If you’re interested in lending a hand, full training will be provided and assistance will be arranged on a rostered basis. This is a great opportunity to get involved and support the club in a fun and social environment.

If you'd like to express your interest, please email manager@stclairgolf.co.nz with your availability.

Course Marshall Volunteers

As we prepare for the upcoming season, we are once again seeking volunteers to assist with Course Marshalling duties. The 120th Annual General Meeting of St Clair Golf Club Inc
(24th September 2025)

Have you thought of standing for election to the Committee or Board?

Allow to display images

Dear Members,

Nominations are now open for positions on the Board of Management and various Committee roles, with several vacancies available.
As outlined in the Club Rules, the Board of Management comprises five members, each serving a three-year term on a rotational basis. This year, Paul Buckner is retiring by rotation and has offered himself for re-election. However, nominations are welcomed from any eligible member who wishes to stand for election to the Board.
Nominations for both the Board and Committee Officer roles must be submitted in writing, signed by two full members and the nominee. These must be received no later than 13th September 2025, which is at least 10 working days prior to the Annual General Meeting. Nomination forms are available in both the Men’s and Ladies’ restrooms.
Voting will take place at the Annual General Meeting. If nominations exceed the number of available positions for either the Board or Committee, a secret ballot will be conducted at the meeting, with scrutineers appointed to oversee the process.
Yours faithfully
Annette
