5th September 2025

Men's Club Captain Report

Dear Members,

Last week we played the second round for the Eureka Paterson & Corstorphine cups. Congrats to those who made it through to the third round. The rest of the field played a Stableford and player of the day was Callum Gillies who had 46 points (73 gross). Special mention to Jason Smith who had a bogey free 68!

This week we play the Platinum Homes club captains mug and Ron Johnston Memorial.

Practice nets. We have completed the practice nets.

Thanks to Wayne, Appie & Puggy for helping. The matts are on order and should be here any day.

It has been a stellar couple of weeks for our younger members.

Firstly, Kings High school played in the NZ Secondary schools finals at Shandon and finished in 6th place. Albie Reed finished 6th overall with rounds of 68 and 74 (plus 2) and Will Summers 17th on 6 over par.

Then onto the NZ under19 54-hole Championship played at Boulcotts farm. Albie Reed tied for 4th at 4 over par, Connor Howes 9th at 7 over par, Will Summers 19th and Harvey O’Neill just missed the cut. That is a fantastic result for these guys and is a credit to all of them.

Then Sunday the 2025 Chisholm Links Open. We had Albie, Will, Jakob Bleach and Parker Aluesi all tied for third.

Congrats to all, the future looks bright!

Regards

On Course

So much for an early spring as we work through a cold early part of this week. We usually get a warm week or two in August where the grass starts to move and the mowers come out. However while we’ve done a small bit of mowing the grass doesn’t really start to grow properly until the end of September.

As many golfers would have noticed we have been demoing a mower to mow the first cut of round around the fairways, tees, greens and bunkers. This has gone very well as the machine does everything we need of it without tying up our tees mower doing this.

Tom from Turf Shapes has again been in this week installing a drain on the problematic 18th green and finishing the drain on the 13th green. Both of these areas pond during rain events but now with this drainage installed they should drain freely and not cause anymore problems. The turfing around these areas will need time to heal and settle down so no doubt will look ugly for a while. I ask nicely if golfers can keep off of them as much as possible while they are bedding in. The same goes for the 7th green returf.

Last Thursday we saw 2 groups of volunteers working about the golf course with the new practise nets installed and looking great as well as a large amount of gorse and broom removed from the gully infront of the 12th tee. A big thank you to the nine members who helped out with both of these jobs.

Cheers
Chris Murphy

The 120th Annual General Meeting of St Clair Golf Club Inc
(24th September 2025 at 7.30pm)

Have you thought of standing for election to the Committee or Board?
Last date for nominations is Saturday 13th September. See details below.

Nominations are now open for positions on the Board of Management and various Committee roles, with several vacancies available.
As outlined in the Club Rules, the Board of Management comprises five members, each serving a three-year term on a rotational basis. This year, Paul Buckner is retiring by rotation and has offered himself for re-election. However, nominations are welcomed from any eligible member who wishes to stand for election to the Board.
Nominations for both the Board and Committee Officer roles must be submitted in writing, signed by two full members and the nominee. These must be received no later than 13th September 2025, which is at least 10 working days prior to the Annual General Meeting. Nomination forms are available in both the Men’s and Ladies’ restrooms.
Voting will take place at the Annual General Meeting. If nominations exceed the number of available positions for either the Board or Committee, a secret ballot will be conducted at the meeting, with scrutineers appointed to oversee the process.
Yours faithfully
Annette
