Course Report
The mini-tine aeration last week went really well with very little disruption to the putting surface but plenty of benefit to the greens. As I mentioned last time, we will be aiming to do this at least four times a year mixed in with deeper aeration with the Air2g2 machine to keep allowing moisture to move through the profile.
We also managed to get the greens verti-cut last week which is another essential job. Over two full workman loads of rubbish (thatch, dead leaves, long bits of grass etc) were removed from the surface.
Next week will be our first sanding of the season as today we finally got some calm weather to apply some fertiliser to the greens. Once they start growing we can lower the height of cut down from our winter heights and from there we wont be far from weekend mowing again.
The irrigation has been put to good use lately with the course certainly drying out with spring's increased winds. While there is always something to fix with the system so far it's running ok.
Before our next lot of rain we will be fertilizing the tee blocks. While most have wintered fairly well they are all looking for a feed to recover from so much wear and tear. The mowing has also picked up with the grass starting to grow. Our fairway mower blades returned last week from sharpening and are now back in action.
Overall the course has come through winter pretty well without getting to wet or unplayable.
Cheers
