Introducing our new Course Convenor

Hello fellow members,

As your new course convener, it’s great that I have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development and maintenance of St Clair. I am in my tenth year as a full member of the club. My golf game could be described as an extended project with no known end date.

A brief introduction. I have lived and worked in Dunedin for the past 45 years. In a previous career I was a greenkeeper at Balmacewen, where I qualified as a Golf Course Greenkeeper and also gained a Diploma in Turf Culture. I was also for 25 years the owner and franchisor of a Lawn and Garden Maintenance business in Dunedin. I am now semi-retired.

I’ve recently met with Chris and his team and it’s clear we now have some very good machinery and equipment to work with. What we lack, however, is the most important resource of all — manpower. You only need to drive around the course to see there is still plenty of work to be done. That’s why volunteers remain such a vital part of the club. We are lucky with the ones we have, but we could always use more. Please consider lending a hand if you’re able.

I know that communication with members regarding the course has been an issue in the past. I intend to give members regular updates about ongoing course maintenance and improvements, and I will also convey any constructive member feedback to Chris and his team.

Members can contact me with feedback on my dedicated club email address at convener@stclairgolf.co.nz.

Play well,
Neil Turner

Course Advisory Group

Dear members, the following is an invitation for those of you who would like to be part of the course advisory group to help shape the future of the course.

We have all had a chance to digest the tree removal and now have a feel for the new look of the course. It's now time to start our planting plans for the future. We have some important decisions to be made as to what areas do we plant out and what areas do we just grass. What type of planting, taking into account what species, size and quantities etc. Many of us have opinions but it will take a team to come up with the future look of the course.

If you have any expertise to offer, we would like to hear from you. We have very robust discussions on various aspects of course development and I expect nothing less when discussing the planting.

So, if you are prepared to put some time into the planning and can work with a diverse team, please let me know.
Once we have the team finalised, we can start the process of shaping the future of St Clair.

Please advise by email to me ,  paul.brouwer@nzwindowshades.co.nz
