Course Convenor report

Hello fellow members,

Course conditions – Heavy, but with sun and wind helping to dry the course things should improve. Last weekend 38mm of rain put a damper on club play. Although a small amount of growth occurs during the winter, this is not enough for regular mowing on the course. However, with rain and temperatures on the increase more regular mowing of greens, tees, fairways and rough is occurring.

Work on the course – All greens will be starting to receive a light dressing of sand which will be brushed into the green surface. This will be a fortnightly occurrence. Work on the 7th Tee is continuing with the new turf rolled and sanded.

Members are asked to pick up as much tree debris as they can and place it in tree/dead areas around the course. This saves our greens staff time when they are mowing the fairways and rough.

With rain comes soft greens. Please carry a ball mark repair tool in your pocket. The correct method to repair a ball mark is to insert the ball mark repair tool behind the ball mark and gently push the top of the tool toward the center. Continue working around the ball mark, pushing the surrounding turf in toward the center of the indentation. Avoid using a lifting or twisting motion because this can damage turf roots. Once you have finished pushing turf in toward the center, gently tamp the area down with your putter to create a smooth, firm surface.

Please also replace any divots taken on fairways.

Members can contact me with feedback on my dedicated club email address at convener@stclairgolf.co.nz.

Play well,
Neil Turner

Course Advisory Group

Dear members, the following is an invitation for those of you who would like to be part of the course advisory group to help shape the future of the course.

We have all had a chance to digest the tree removal and now have a feel for the new look of the course. It's now time to start our planting plans for the future. We have some important decisions to be made as to what areas do we plant out and what areas do we just grass. What type of planting, taking into account what species, size and quantities etc. Many of us have opinions but it will take a team to come up with the future look of the course.

If you have any expertise to offer, we would like to hear from you. We have very robust discussions on various aspects of course development and I expect nothing less when discussing the planting.

So, if you are prepared to put some time into the planning and can work with a diverse team, please let me know.
Once we have the team finalised, we can start the process of shaping the future of St Clair.

Please advise by email to me ,  paul.brouwer@nzwindowshades.co.nz

Storm Damage Update

You’ll notice some great progress around the Club this week — our new window and cladding are now complete, and both the inside and outside painting have been finished. Even better, the scaffolding is down – yay!

Next week, the table tops will be repaired, and the door at the top of the stairs has already been painted and fixed. We’re still waiting for the new driving range nets to arrive, but things are really starting to come together.

A big thank you to everyone for your patience while we’ve worked through these repairs — it’s taken a bit of time, but we’re getting there! And special thanks to those who take the time to pick up debris around the course – it’s a constant task with these windy days, and your efforts make a real difference.

Upcoming Events

Corporate Days & Functions

We’re heading into our busy season with Christmas just around the corner, and the Club is already buzzing with corporate days and festive functions.

We’re doing our best to ensure the upstairs Clubrooms remain available for members each Saturday. At this stage, the only unavailable dates are Saturday 8th November and Saturday 22nd November, which are booked for Club-run Christmas functions and serve as important fundraisers for St Clair Golf Club.

We really appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work to balance our events schedule and keep disruptions to a minimum during this busy period.
