Last week we played Womphrey Ambrose.

Congratulations to the winning team who won with a score of 54.

James Wright, Gary Iti, Geoff Womphrey (presenter of the trophy), Peter Lee and Allan Gill.

This week we play the Brian Townley memorial stableford and we also play the JW Smeaton shootout final for both men and woman. Get along and watch the action (carnage) unfold. Tee off 2.30pm. The shootout for 2026 starts again 25th November.

A reminder we now have no placing on the fairways.

On Sunday, 6 women made the journey over to Otago to defend the Arthur Barnett Cup. Matches were all played in good spirit but unfortunately we were unsuccessful, going down 4.5/1.5.

The cup has been in the St Clair trophy cabinet since 2018 and we look forward to returning it in 2026.

This week we're playing a stableford and good luck to the following 10 women who are playing in the shootout final on Saturday afternoon: Chris Chambers, Tina Deans, Jocelyn Livesey, Caroline Burgess, Sandra Hunt, Alicia Campbell, Alison Wassell, Pauline Ryan, Lee-Ann Henry and Hannah West. Thank you to Sandy Graham and Megan Phillips who will be running the shootout this year.

On Sunday, we are hosting the Champion of Champions. Good luck to the team of Susan Greig, Chris Chambers and Jocelyn Livesey who are representing St Clair.

Cheers
Hannah West

Course Convenor report

Damaged Trees – Unfortunately we lost many of our mature pines and macrocarpas in the big wind. As you progress around the course you will see the substantial damage that has occurred. An Arborist is in the progress of making these trees safe so that our staff can continue to clear them. This is extra work for our staff; it was not expected and again shows just how much the course is are exposed to the elements.

Course conditions – We have had plenty of rain (38mm) and with ideal growing temperatures both greens and fairways are in full spring growth. Usual mowing is being carried out. Greens have had Fertiliser applied and another sand top dress, they have plenty of grass. The putting green is slightly behind. It has to be said that it has very high usage all year round, but with further sand top dressings will show the improvement we are looking for. The damaged part of the 7th green is progressing well. The damaged area is still GUR. Fairways will be sprayed for weeds when weather permits. Chris and his team have started (again weather permitting) early Saturday morning mowing of the Greens. Holes will be changed on Friday after any booked function on the course has finished. This will continue until April when growth subsides.

My role as Golf Course Convenor - Under the club constitution the Golf Course Convenor plays a key role in overseeing the maintenance, presentation, and strategic development of the golf course. Working closely with the Course Superintendent, Club Management, and the Board/Committee, the Convenor ensures that the course is maintained to a high standard and aligns with the club’s long-term vision. The St Clair Course Standards document is the benchmark which is used to help bring consistency and continuity to the management of the golf course.

My position is voluntary and like many of the club members who also volunteer I’m doing it because I wanted to give something back to a game I love. The club relies on volunteers, please consider volunteering yourself.

Please remember to give way to our greens staff on the course.

Members can contact me with feedback on my dedicated club email address at convenor@stclairgolf.co.nz.
 Play well,
Neil Turner

Corporate Days & Functions

We’re heading into our busy season with Christmas just around the corner, and the Club is already buzzing with corporate days and festive functions.

We’re doing our best to ensure the upstairs Clubrooms remain available for members each Saturday. At this stage, the only unavailable date is Saturday 22nd November, which is booked for a Club-run Christmas function and serves as an important fundraiser for St Clair Golf Club.

We really appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work to balance our events schedule and keep disruptions to a minimum during this busy period.
