Men's Club Captain Report

Dear Members

Last week we played the first qualifying round for the Platinum Homes club champs. We still have the 31st of Jan to put in a qualifying card if you haven’t already done so.

Player of the day Jamie Murley net 64.

With another qualifying round to go we have Cam Botting, Greg Johnson, Mark Davis & Iain Ferguson leading their respective divisions.

This week it’s the first round of the four seasons and we are off the big boy tees. Black tees will play a bit longer this time round as course conditions are a bit softer for this time of year.

Cross Country is back, register yourself or your team in the pro shop for Friday 6th March.

Dunedin Strokeplay. Feb 21st is the St Clair Dunedin Strokeplay. We have a Saturday division and a Saturday/Sunday division with blue and black tee options. Please support this event.

Pennants. Yes, it’s that time of the year again. The team sheets are on the notice board in the men’s changing rooms. Please enter your names on the sheets. It’s a great way to play all the other Dunedin course and represent your club.

Members can you help? I am still looking for help with starting duties particularly in the mornings. Let me know if you can help.

Can you help as a sponsor? We have several competitions we run throughout the year. It’s a great opportunity to support the committee by sponsoring a Saturday comp or a trophy event. All the money we receive for sponsoring committee events goes into funding our competitions and directly benefits members. Costs are from $100.00. If you are interested, please let me know.

Course Convenor's Report

As has already been announced there have been some local rule changes in regards to blue, green and red marker pegs. Members will notice in the coming weeks a number of additional pegs to help clearly mark these areas. Again, please be aware, some areas have changed colours.

The contractor working to remove piles of slash around to course is almost finished. Thanks go to Eddie Baker for cutting the Macrocarpa by the 8th tee into manageable pieces so it can be removed. We have another contractor coming in very soon to work the gully between the 11th and 12th.

There is still a lot of growth on the course. So, mowing has been again the top priority. All the greens were verticut this week. Rain is forecast unfortunately for the weekend. However, it will help the course maintain well-grassed fairways which were perhaps on the verge of browning off.

If there is are obvious operational issues etc. that effect normal club play, please let Chris know as soon as possible so that he can effect a change.

Please remember to give way to our greens staff on the course.

Members can contact me with feedback or questions regarding the course on my dedicated club email address at convenor@stclairgolf.co.nz

 Play well
Neil Turner
