Men's Club Captain Report

Dear Members,

Last week we played the qualifying round for the 4bbb. Congratulations to top qualifiers Ethan Hand & Anthony Sewell with nett 61.

Volunteers:  You may have seen the club is looking for volunteers to help. Some of the jobs as follows.

  • Greens: Hand watering, rimming edges etc.
  • Tees: Trimming around markers, divoting, filling sand bins, line trimming etc.
  • Bunkers: Raking bunkers with bunker machine, spraying weeds & edging.
  • General course: Line trimming, weeding in natives, knapsack spraying, picking up debris & helping with firewood.

Please help if you are able.

Pennants:
Senior A hosted the Otago Bombers on Saturday and had a convincing win 5-1.
Senior B had a 3-3 draw with Island Park.
Intermediate remain unbeaten with a 2-2 draw with Dunedin juniors.

Templeton: The sheets are on the notice board in the men’s changing room. If you would like to play, please enter your name on the sheet.

Events: The club is hosting a series of events starting with Gin Tasting 8th May 6.30pm. $25 for 6 flavours and platter. Join us for a great evening.

Saturdays Competition is first round 4bbb and stableford for others.

Matchplay. The lowest marker gives the shots. That players handicap goes to zero and all other players handicaps reduce the amount of the low marker. EG: if the low marker is on an 8 handicap, then that player goes to zero and all others reduce their handicaps by 8. Shots are then given according to the stroke holes on the card. If tied after 18 holes you then go to number 1 tee and continue until someone wins the hole. Shots given if applicable.

Max handicap is 24

Round 1 April 18th
Round 2 on or before May 9th
Round 3 May 16th
Semi-final May 23rd
Final May 30th

Stableford comp winners
Sarah Kennelly 34ocb, Jenny Soper 34, Megan Phillips 33 ocb.

A reminder to put your name on the board or email Sandra or myself by the end of Saturday 18th April if you would like to enter any of these comps.

Pennants
Unfortunately the pennants team lost 0-4 to Taieri Lakes at Taieri, always a hard ask. Better luck for next week’s round which will be played at St Clair.

21st and 25th April - 1st round of the Dodgshun Memorial stableford

Volunteers

Our volunteers play a hugely important role in keeping the Club running, and we simply couldn’t do it without their support. With the ongoing pressures we’re facing, we would really appreciate a few extra hands to help out where possible. There are a number of areas where assistance would make a real difference, including greens (hand watering and trimming around sprinklers), tees (trimming around markers, divoting, filling sand bins, and general upkeep), bunkers (raking, weed spraying and edging), and general course work such as line trimming, weeding, spraying, debris collection, and even helping with firewood. If you have any time at all to spare, we’d love to hear from you—please give the office a call and we can have a chat about how you might be able to help.

Driving Range Alarm

Great news — the driving range alarm is back up and running! We’ve reinstated the push button out on the course (near the 17th hole). The aerial had previously been broken off and the unit had become waterlogged, so we’ve had a new aerial manufactured, rebuilt the enclosure, and reinstalled it on site. It has now been tested and is fully operational.

Course Update (9th April)

Here’s a snapshot of what’s been happening on the course over the past few months and what’s coming up:

Course Works (Last 3 Months)

  • Sanding programme is nearing completion, with approximately two applications remaining this season
  • Greens have been mini-tined (quarterly), with minimal disruption to members
  • Star weed has had its third spray and is now starting to die off
  • Fairways have been fertilised and are showing strong growth
  • Mowing remains at full capacity

Maintenance Notes

  • Our debris blower remote has been out of action for the past 5 weeks (awaiting parts), which has impacted clean-up efficiency

Coming Up / Priority Works

  • Tee aeration to be completed before winter
  • Drainage work across the course (including known problem areas like the carpark) to be actioned urgently ahead of winter
  • Arborist to be engaged to inspect trees and address any health & safety risks
  • Bunker drainage repairs to be undertaken over winter (scope to be determined)
  • Clean-up of the gully on 11th hole, with a digger scheduled to tidy the area

Thanks for your ongoing support — plenty happening behind the scenes to keep the course in great shape!
