Course Convenor's Report
Hello fellow St Clair members,
I had some conversations last week about the course, one of which hit home, it was an email outlining that we need to start celebrating what has been achieved on the course instead of constantly berating what isn’t perfect. And a good call I say. So, I took some time to read through the last survey comments.
Possibly the top comment was on the poor condition of the tee boxes, and I’m sure you will all agree, there has been significant improvement in recent times. Some new tee blocks, better irrigation, and repairs to others, overall, fantastic effort.
There were many comments about the practice area, most notably was drivers being hit towards 17th fairway. The comments were from both side, people feeling unsafe on 17 and others frustrated they couldn’t practice with driver. Again, asked and answered, the alarm was installed to alert people on the range that there are golfers on 17, this seems to be working fine. But please, the emphasis still needs to be on those hitting towards people, just be aware.
The condition of the bunkers was also called into question, I have noticed a massive improvement here, being mindful that we can’t possible have light fluffy white sand due to wind, we would almost have to replace it weekly. So, acknowledgment where it is due, well-done team.
Another key notation was the difference between the practice green and the course greens. Remembering that only 16 of our greens were re-built to more modern sand based, 2 greens remain soil based plus the practice green. Through consistent maintenance and regular sanding, the 2 on-course greens are more like the other 16 and the practice green is very close too.
Personally, I’m still working through the day to day of this role, making sure tat the membership is informed but not overstepping boundaries, I guess you could say that I have no allegiance to anyone, but my loyalties are will all. We do have a lot to do, but we have also achieved so much. Thanks to the member that pointed out that should celebrate what has been achieved. Also, thanks to the members that are keen just to have a chat about the course.
Kind regards,
Mark Rowley
