St Clair Golf Club Weekly Wrap

Men's Club Captain Report

Dear Members

Last Saturday we played the first round of the 4BBB knockout. Congrats to all who got through. We also played a stableford for others with Paddy Bleach, Mark Rowley & Eugene Burger all with 41 points.

Also on Saturday, there was an error made in the office which resulted in the twos for the blue tees not getting paid out. This has now been corrected but I'd like to apologise and recognise the following twos that didn't get read out at prize giving - Ash Gillon (4 and 7), Phil Luyten (4) and Damian Ludwig (16). They get $9 for each two and Ash Gillon gets $80 for the Jackpot.

This week we play the first second round of the 4BBB and a Single Par for the rest of the field. Remember to write the results of the 4BBB on the results sheet in the men’s locker room.

Our senior A pennant team continues to fly the St Clair flag this year. They remain unbeaten and seem to have a knack of winning the close ones. Unfortunately, the rest of our teams in the other grades are not going as well.

It’s great to see the progress in the tree clean up. The efforts by our entire greens staff have been huge so a very big thank you to Chris and his team for the progress to date.

I put this to all members to make sure we look after the course and tidy up after ourselves. If you see someone not doing so either discuss this with them or if you don’t feel comfortable doing this, please tell me.

Can you help?

We are still looking for Volunteers for Carpet removal on Sunday 18th May
As you are all aware, we will soon be having new carpet laid in the clubhouse. To prepare for this, we are looking for volunteers to assist with lifting and removing the old carpet.
If you're available, we would greatly appreciate your help for half a day on Sunday, 18th May from 9:00am. Even if you can spare just an hour, your support would be most welcome.
Many hands make light work, and your contribution would go a long way in helping us get the job done efficiently.

Do You Know the Rules

*

Currently we have a Local Rule in place:

1 club-length placing on your own fairway’.

(called ‘Preferred Lie’ in the Rules)

This means:

  • When any part of your ball touches your own fairway, you may take free relief by placing a ball in the general area, within one club-length of its original spot, no nearer the hole.
(Note: you may clean your ball or you may change it if you want)
  • You do not need to mark the original spot before moving your ball.  (Although it is probably good practice to do so).
The same rule holds when you are taking other forms of free or penalty relief and differs to the situation when you are replacing a ball on a spot, in which case the spot must be marked before lifting the ball. (Rule 14,1a)

  • The new spot is determined as soon as you have put the ball down and let it go.
( i.e. you can’t move it again if you don’t like the spot).
